CAN Info-Tech 2010, the largest annual Information and Communication Technology (ICT) fair in the country, has kicked off in the capital on Wednesday.

Organised by the Computer Association of Nepal (CAN), the expo aims to showcase the latest technological development in ICT realm as well as to create awareness among the people about the ICT sector of Nepal.

While inaugurating the 16th edition of the annual event at the Exhibition Hall, Bhrikuti Mandap, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal said that the government was committed to exploit the ICT as a productive tool to expedite the development of the country.

Speaking on the same occasion, Manohar Bhattarai, Vice President, High Level Commission for Information and Technology (HLCIT), remarked that the government would soon implement the policy of e-governance.

The six-day Info Tech showcases some 270 stalls of over one hundred national and international ICT companies.

Various brands of laptops, computers, security systems, software, UPS, invertors, mobiles, iPods and digital cameras among others are the prime highlights of the expo.

Electronic and digital devices of renowned brands including Lenovo, HP, Sony, Samsung, Umax, Logitech, Su-Kam, Brother, Kaspersky, Toshiba, and HCL are also displayed in the fair.

According to CAN officials, the visitors at the expo can buy the desired products at heavy discounts due to stiff competition among the exhibitors and will also get more offers.

As a part of the event, CAN will also hold IT conference on Jan. 16-17 focusing on the ICT sector and Nepal's economy under the theme "Next IT Economy: A Future Talk" at the Nepal Tourism Board's hall. In the conference, national and international IT specialists will be presenting 20 papers on nine topics related to the IT sector.

The conference will be participated in by over 150 IT focal points, representatives from Nepal Telecom and other IT professionals.

The tickets are priced at Rs. 30 for students and Rs. 50 for the general people. The tickets will cost Rs. 150 during the business days scheduled for Jan. 14 and Jan. 18.

I don't like this year's CAN Infotech

It was really worse than my expectation. Why they didn't do the promotion. There are not such great stall. It was totally unfruitful to us, visitors.
