Blogging is no longer just a place for teenie-boppers to blog about their teenage angst. Blogs now provide the worlds with news, life tips, products and services, and, most importantly, blogging has become some people’s source of income. Blogging gives us the chance to share our writing with others, build our reputations, demonstrate that our writing is something others want to read, and, ultimately, it allows us to attract work. Here are a few tips to help beginner bloggers create and maintain a successful blog.
1. Your Writing
It’s not that you have to post three times a week, but you should post to your blog consistently and frequently. Doing so keeps you and your blog relevant in the blogging world and attracts more readers. You must also have something that people want to read; the easiest way to do this is to write about what you know and are passionate about. Not doing so will deter you from posting and ultimately be shown in your writing.
2. Self-Promote
Always promote your blog; do so by telling friends and family, promoting it on your social networks, and doing guest posts for others with an author bio and a link to your blog if they’ll allow it. Don’t do it ad nauseam, but do it often enough to drive traffic to your blog.
3. Include Social Media Buttons
Other people’s promotion of your blog is even better than doing the promoting yourself; you’ll reach a bigger audience and all with little to no work on your part. Make it easy for them by adding social media buttons, like Facebook’s, Twitter’s, Pinterest’s, etc.
4. Network
A form of self-promotion, participating in others’ blogs is a great way to drive traffic and readers to your own. Read others’ blogs, comment, and follow them. Add blogs you really like to your blog’s blog roll. Many people will extend you the same courtesy.
5. Participate
When your readers comment on your blog posts, be an active participant in the conversation. Aside from it being rude to ignore users’ comments, engaging your readers will make them seem appreciated and encourage conversation. Happy readers mean more promotion and more readers.
6. Give It Time
Nothing happens overnight, so don’t expect your blog to be successful right away. It takes time and work, so be steadfast. If you are a good writer with interesting material and do all of the above, you will see success.
