Nepal will soon have its own search engine. After the immense popularity of search engines like Google and Yahoo, a local youth has developed possibly the first search engine based in Nepal. The project was unveiled for the first time at the ongoing Midas CAN SofTech 2010.

Apar Thebe, who developed the search engine named ´ebuzz! asia´, said that the search engine would be launched commercially by October. Thebe said he thought of this concept when he could not find necessary documents for his research when he was studying abroad.

“I felt that our data and information are not digitized. I worked on the search engine project to make our data and information available to all at a single click,” Thebe said.

On September 1st, 2005 the joomla.org websites were launched, at which point Joomla was was an unknown name to the world.

Right now, Joomla has been downloaded 18,317,160 times (at a current speed of about 190,000 downloads per week), an estimate of 1.75 million websites use Joomla and exactly  5519 extensions have been submitted to the Joomla Extensions Directory. Furthermore, the search term 'Joomla' is typed in to Google approximately 6.4 times per second (yes, that means that if you finish reading this blog, over 300 people have searched for 'Joomla' on Google!).

As a Content Management System, Joomla incorporates the W3C standards that outline the specific languages that can be used in creating templates. Some of these templates incorporate HyperText Markup Language, Extensible Markup Language, or Cascading Style Sheets.

On Thursday morning, Steven P. Jobs, Apple’s chief executive, showed off a new social network for music called Ping. It runs inside the newest version of Apple’s iTunes software. Ping also works on the latest software for iPhones and iPod Touches. (Apple hasn’t made it available for iPad this time around.)

It’s like “Facebook and Twitter meet iTunes,” Jobs says. “But it’s not Facebook, it’s not Twitter,” Jobs is quick to note — “it’s a social network all about music.” And guess what? It has 160 million users in 23 countries built in right away (Apple will presumably be opening it up to other iTunes users later). And it’s available on your iPhone and iPod touch — right in the iTunes Store.

Jobs notes that this feature is all about discovery. You can follow both artists and your friends. And you can be followed. With it, you get custom song and album charts to discover new music. And you can post your thoughts and opinions about your favorite music. Plus, there are 17,000 concert listing in the network.

Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on Wednesday said that the benefits of information technology should be taken to the grassroots level and it should benefit people in the day to day activities.

Inaugurating the Midas CAN Softech 2010 at Direction Exhibition and Convention Center at United World Trade Center in Tripureshwar on Wednesday, PM Nepal said the usage of software, which is limited to official works at present, should also benefit the rural folks.

Stressing on the government initiative to impose ban on porn sites, PM Nepal also sought support of IT professionals to implement the restriction.

Facebook is suing a company called Teachbook, which operates a social networking site for teachers, apparently because it has "book" in its name and "competes" with Facebook. Teachbook is described as "a professional community for teachers".

In the suit, Facebook is alleging federal trademark dilution, trademark infringement and unfair competition.

Teachbook, which says that it is a community for teachers where users can share lesson plans, get advice, and connect with other educators, had created a site similar in scope to Facebook, but rather than social, Teachbook is offering a professional network site for educators. The homepage had a message, that has since been removed, stating, "Many schools forbid their teachers to maintain Facebook and MySpace accounts ... With Teachbook, you can manage your profile."

If you are using the Internet Explorer 6.0 till now to chat on Facebook, better move to an upgraded version.

Facebook in its blog said that chat feature will not be supported by IE6, better shove it under the carpet and move on. According to blog post, company will be dropping Internet Explorer 6 support for its chat application on September 15th, 2010.

Like many other web applications, Facebook is also moving away from IE6 because of its inability to support new feautres.
