Who would believe that there would be an open source CMS based on Microsoft's ASP.NET? A CMS that can support any modern browser and that even allows editing with Microsoft Word. One where designers can create accessible and valid xhtml with their markup left intact. Where developers can integrate any .net based control right out of the box. If someone tells you "won’t happen", then they have never used umbraco...
What is Umbraco?
umbraco is an open source project with roots back to year 2000 even though it wasn't released as open source until 2004. Prior to that it was founder Niels Hartvig's home-grown weapon of choise for working as a freelancer.
Today it has grown to be among the top fifteen most popular open source .NET applications and in May 2008 it hit a milestone at 50.000 installed and active websites (double up from 25.000 in April 2007).
umbraco is a registered trademark of Niels Hartvig.
Umbraco Team
umbraco was founded and is owned by Niels Hartvig, but is made possible by loads of individuals helping out and the core team who's doing the development.
Niels Hartvig, Founder & architect
As the original brain behind umbraco, I'm in charge of development and application/experience design. My primary roles in the project are the contentious development of the umbraco platform and thinking about how umbraco should work and act in the future.
