What is UNITES, Nepal?

UNITES Nepal (UNIon of IT and IT Enabled Services Professionals) is Union organization of Nepalese IT and IT  Enabled Service Professionals, which primarily focused to protect their jobs and provide security. It acts aganings discrimination, exploitation and also concerns over the Health and Safety issues of Nepalese IT Professionals. Creating IT jobs and and its sustainablility is another prime objectives of UNITES Nepal. Legal Protection, Trainings, Skills and Retraining to its members, Members welfare program are part of its regular work. Flourishing IT and Implementing IT in all level of lives of Nepalese People through mass awareness and Creating pressure and Making suggesting and recommendations to the Policy Makers, Governments, Concern Authority and Organizations are also objectives of UNITES Nepal. UNITES is in the Organizing and Uniting phase. 

It is estimated that more than 100000 people are working in the field of IT. Information technology, known as IT, refers to the study, design, development, implementation, support and management of computer-based knowledge. Those who are working in this sectors are IT Professionals and IT workers. IT is the only industry which beyond the borders.

UNITES Nepal is initiated by UNI/NEPAL Liaison Council  and  generated idea by group of IT professionals from Nepal after and during working in various IT companies, and those who have been working in this field. The group had faced so many problems during their working period and realized that there should be some kind of organization who can listen to their problems and fight for them. At this point UNITES Nepal is more focused on IT professionals rights, regulations, their career and skills. Union of IT and IT Enabled Services (UNITES) Nepal is one of the national level unions in Nepal. It represents IT Professionals and IT sector employees in the country. It was established in Magh 1, 2067 B.S. (15 Jan 2011) by leading democratic IT Professionals and IT workers. Before establishing the UNITES Nepal, It has organized series of 7 NGN meetings of IT Professionals, which realized and found the need of IT Union in Nepal.  UNITE Nepal‘s aim is not only to provide different types of security to IT professionals, it’s also aiming to bring revolution in IT industry of Nepal.

It is affiliated with UNI Global Union internationally.

Why need a union in IT Profession?

IT profession is a technical field and it is a service sector. IT professionals are not professionally organized because there is no union yet in this field which representatives IT professionals to ensure their job security, concerns on health & safety matters, creates safe working environment, prevent gender discrimination and cares for social security after active working life. A justified society means people to entertain their constitutional, human and professional/working rights and also bears the responsibilities. Therefore according to Trade Union Act 1992 all IT Professionals and IT enabled service sector workers gathered and formed UNITES Nepal to deal all the issues of IT Professionals.
