Hippo CMS (Hippo Content Management System) is the web-based graphical user interface that provides access to the content in the repository. It provides an easy way to create and manage your content, i.e. to write or upload, share, print, search, refer to, edit and structure content, assign rights to do so, have content automatically validated against your business rules and restore previous versions of the content.
Hippo CMS is open source and continually in agile development, providing new features monthly.
Main features are Web-based, Multi-user, Faceted search, Versioned, Structurizable etc.
New version of 7.2 New Hippo CMS with HST has been released, which offers a set of new, powerful tools for end-users to bring sites live fast and easy.
| 1 | Web-based | Content is managed via your normal web browser, anywhere you have access to your organization's intranet. | |
| 2 | Multi-user | Several users may work on the same document, picture, soundtrack or other piece of content. Rights to change pieces of content or just to read them can be assigned. | |
| 3 | Faceted search | Advanced methods to search and select content are available to find information to read or to refer to from other documents. | |
| 4 | Versioned | Previous versions of content are stored automatically, so that they can be restored in case users change their mind. | |
| 5 | Structurizable | Organizations that use Hippo CMS, design their own content structure. Hippo CMS ensures that all content fits into this single structure. Thus, the content base of the organization will be filled with information actually useful to the company; required information will actually be there and the content base will be easily understandable and searchable, thanks to its uniformity. |
New Hippo CMS 7.2 with HST offers a set of new, powerful tools for end-users to bring sites live fast and easy.
Next to numerous 'under the hood' improvements, making Hippo CMS 7.2 the fastest, most stable version yet, CMS 7.2 offers some exciting new functionality. Hippo CMS 7.2 is focused on giving editors more control over the way content is presented, reducing the burden of frequent site changes on IT resources and getting new sites or changes to existing sites live faster.
With CMS 7.2 and HST, end users now can:
- Control the way website pages are made up from within the CMS
- Create (sometimes complex) new document types with a few clicks of the mouse
- Batch process documents and rollback to previous versions
How to work as a user of Hippo CMS.
Hippo CMS allows to define which role(s) a user may perform. In day to day usage, authors write and add content, and editors decide about publishing the content. The authors write documents that each are of a certain document type. The document type specifies what kind of information the document should provide. The document types are a kind of business rules and are composed by information architects, generally before any meaningful documents are written. All users, authors, editors and information architects have to get an account from a CMS administrator. Unlike the other users, CMS administrators have no part in the content of the CMS, they only assign permissions.
For documentation for specific roles, see the list. For a more general introduction on the use of the Hippo CMS, see below the list.
