TomatoCMS is an impressive, powerful Content Management System. It's free and open source licensed under GNU GPL.

TomatoCMS considers each web page made up of many different elements called widgets. You can easily create, customize the layout of your site like never before through a visual tool called Layout Editor very easy and convenient. Layout Editor allows you to not only drag, drop but also configure the widgets as well as preview the layout of the site. Umbraco: Friendly CMS on Microsoft's ASP.NET

Posted by admin in Umbraco CMS

admin

Who would believe that there would be an open source CMS based on Microsoft's ASP.NET? A CMS that can support any modern browser and that even allows editing with Microsoft Word. One where designers can create accessible and valid xhtml with their markup left intact. Where developers can integrate any .net based control right out of the box. If someone tells you "won’t happen", then they have never used umbraco...

What is Umbraco?

umbraco is an open source project with roots back to year 2000 even though it wasn't released as open source until 2004. Prior to that it was founder Niels Hartvig's home-grown weapon of choise for working as a freelancer.

Today it has grown to be among the top fifteen most popular open source .NET applications and in May 2008 it hit a milestone at 50.000 installed and active websites (double up from 25.000 in April 2007).

Most Popular Open Source CMS

Water & Stone, a web development company specializing in Open Source technologies, released a popularity survey of open source content management systems. In the analysis of 19 of the most prominent open source content management systems, Water and Stone evaluated CMS’s on the basis of Rate of Adoption and Brand Strength, as well as a variety of other viability indicators and trends.

Leaving Alfresco Out

Aside the strange fact of not including the open source giant Alfresco in its evaluation, the discussion seems to be pretty interesting. Water & Stone described this decision as “although popular and suitable for web publishing,” Alfresco and others are “primarily intended for more narrow uses.” Not sure what that means, but we will go on.

While WordPress, Joomla! and Drupal lead across a wide range of measures, the survey also identified Elgg and MODx as rising stars

Drupal vs Joomla: Which CMS is Best?

Posted by admin in Open Source CMS

admin

Anyone trying to evaluate open source content management systems is aware that there aren't a lot of recent, useful comparative reviews. What's surprising is that this issue is true even for such popular solutions as Drupal and Joomla.

Stating in January that, "most comparisons of Drupal  and Joomla  conclude that you should select the one that best suits your needs. However, they give too little guidance about how to do that," Webology eBusiness Solutions set out to quantify the pros and cons of each by releasing a survey.

The Survey

The survey divided questions into five categories:

Top 5 most talented CMS Executives in the world

Posted by admin in Open Source CMS

These days i am doing research on Open Source Content Management System. It's always been a interesting topic for me. I thought to cover about some talented and interesting people from the Content Management Industry. Here are the top 5 most talented C-level executives in the CMS world. They are young, wicked smart beyond their age and extraordinarily accomplished — those that you want to keep an eye on.

Not to disappoint my often geeky audience, but no fancy scientific formula was used in putting together this list. Mere talent, smarts, professional accomplishments, innovation and the level of activity in the industry (good looks and levels of oenophilia didn’t count) is what went into the decision.

Pure awesomeness is what i looked for. The selection is not all-inclusive, nor is it entirely objective.

Twitter bans third party ads in user timelines

Posted by admin in twitter

admin

The microblogging service Twitter has announced that it will not allow any third party to insert advertisements in user timelines. The company has also upgraded its Terms of Service in regard to use of Twitter API.

According to the blog post, there are two key reasons. “Firstly, third party ad networks are not necessarily looking to preserve the unique user experience Twitter has created…”. Secondly “the basis for building a lasting advertising network that benefits users should be innovation, not near-term monetization.”

After the notification, its own Promoted Tweets will no longer have any competition from the third-party ad networks. Also, this ban is only meant for paid-for-tweets inserted in the user timelines, not against the ads shown on the Twitter timelines.
